I am from Austria….

4X Start4x.jpg

This weekend I raced in Schladming. It was the 4th UCI World cup. I decided to race 4X too. I enjoyed it a lot. The last years I didn’t want to race both discipline on one weekend, because it is very exhausting. You have to train more, you have to push your bike up the hill, you have to repair 2 bikes (DH /4x) and the qualification and the final runs are so late in the evening (about 8 to 10). This time I had to go to the anti doping control and it took so long that I finally went to bed at 12 o’clock. Stood up at 6 and at had my first training run at 7:45. Saturday morning i was so tired I couldn’t hold my handle bar very well. So I did just 3 runs. In the evening it was better. I qualificated for the 4x (7th). The first heat ended not very well for me. I had a good start but I had the worst start position. I got thwarted by Mio Sumaso and didn’t reach the final. In the semi final I had an excellent start. Hear I have to mention Markus Sedlak (runner up BMX national champ)and say thanks. He showed me how to do gate starts. I ended up 6th. I am was so happy about my final position. My first 4x World cup since ages and I felt so good on my bike. The only thing I really have to say I am so pissed of by the commentator he didn’t even realized at the semi final run that I am also from Austria and when I passed the finish line he just talked about the other austrian rider who was last because she is more known. Anyway I am proud on my result.
I wished I could be also proud on my downhill result (19th). I felt very good in my training runs and I am sure I could race top 15 but my grip broke at the start jump. I think it was a little bit broken before and just at this last run and first 2 seconds it broke. I struggled all the way down to hold on my handle bar because the grip was twisting around. This track had so many brake bumps and roots

wurzeln.jpg

that everybody has problems even without a twisting grip…. Anyway I can’t change it now. To sum up I had a great weekend and I am number 12th at the moment in the UCI World cup ranking in Downhill.
Maybe Kai and I going to compete at an Austrian race just 1 1/2 hour away from my village. I will see.

Training, business, training, business.. I like it

I have many news again. The sun is shining and my legs are flying over the hills. At the moment I am a lot on my home track and on the home town hill. So i am jumping from my four cross bike to the enduro bike nearly everyday. The downhill bike i have to be honest isn’t much in use right now, compare to the other bikes… because I prefer pedaling up than pushing up, and the bike parks haven’t been open yet.
An other project I am very into right now is to make PR for my company, which I re-founded with two student friends, Thomas Bubla and Christian Zauner. The name is Vienna BIke Academy
We have a lot to offer. From Basic courses for those who are newbies up to Advanced and Woman Downhill camps. And the icing of the cake are our business events for companies, who want to use our offer as fringe benefit for the staff or as a goodie for loyal clients. Thomas and Christian are high educated sports scientists and Thomas was also a world cup rider.
So yes I hope this business will run well and I can pass my skills to other people.
My normal week is at the moment, training, phone calls, training, promo video, training, emails, training…. I like and tomorrow i will be the argus bike festival to promote the Vienna Bike Academy.vba1x.jpgvba2.jpgbild1.jpgbild2.jpgsee you there? bye Lene

Maribor World cup : Get dirty…

So this weekend the World cup in Maribor was going on. So Markus, Caroline Buchanan her boyfriend Barry Nobels, my mechanics Martin and Lukas and I were there. It was raining nearly all the time non stop. The track got every run worse but still ride able. So I enjoyed it. Just on friday my second run I felt hard on my head and had a concussion. But the time was pushing. The world cup time table is so packed that you don’t have time for things like this or technical problems. So I waited one hour until my headache stopped and went up again for another run. I cleared all the jumps I wanted to and so I moved on the 4x practice and four cross qualify. I got in the top 16th for the next day with my 12th place. Was allright- I was happy. So the next day in the morning my headache returned I had to kick myself to get out of bed I was so tired. But I got up and did one training run. For my surprise I felt very good and was looking forward to my qualify run. At 12 o clock i went up to the start. I could feel the stress of the girls and you could see it in their faces. I was totally calm. I havn’t felt that for a long time. people who saw me told me I looked fast, so yes my run went perfect …UNTIL I had to pass two girls in front of me and I choosed the worse place to pass- in the rock garden where you normally struggle without having one person lying a cross the track and at an off camber root section. I was yelling at them, I am sure they heard me but didn’t move on or made the way free. So I nearly crashed in her. She was so slow and I can’t understand why she didn’t stop and make the way free. Because when some passing you you will never make it in the top 20 anyway…. When I passed them I still got my best but at the end i lost to much seconds because of these two passing maneuvers.
So yes 27th at the end and not competing on Sunday.
After qualy i jumped back on my 4x bike for training and the race. My first heat was very difficult. I raced against 3 worldcup winners. So not easy at all. Anneke Berten, Jana Horokova, Jana Laboukava. My gate wasn’t very good but I kept up well with them. At the end Jana crashed and I passed her, but still not 2nd and so Jana and I were out.Next stopp is Koppl a 4x race in Austria.

bye bye LEne

Back to my roots….

When i started to race and ride my bike a was a young teenager with no money and no possibilties to get to the races. So I started to ask strangers in a downhill board if they have place to give me a ride to the races, who turned acutally over the years to my best friends. Thanks Jörgili and Markus K..I slept in my small tent next to my bike, cooked with camping cookers and washed myself in rivers. It’s sounds unreal but thats how I could afford to race and travel around Austria from 1998 to 2004. It was a good time and i liked it a lot until the day in Tieschen at the 4 cross national champs when some french bmx freestylers thought they must run with car over my tent. It was horrible and I messed up the national champs the following day. Anyway I kept distance from camping since this happening.

But last weekend I turned my Kombi Peugeot in a downhill race sleeping mobil. I placed matresses in it, my -10 degrees sleeping bag fluffy pillow and my „little kitchen“. And everything turned out well. The race was great a nice track, nice weather, no rain and well organised as well. It was a race of the European IXS Cup race series, so many competitors were starting and it was a great atmosphere.

My training went well and I didn’t had much problems with the track. I liked the tight corners. The only thing which I didn’t like at all was the north shore parts and the wooden turns which doesn’t fit in a downhill track.

three weeks

My last 3 weeks were very packed with action and tears. I raced in Koppl in Salzburg three weeks ago and I had a
very bad crash. I felt so good on the my hardtail bike and played with the course, at the end to much. I wanted
to get prepared for Fort Williams as best as a I can for the following weekend. So my goal was to profit as much as I
can from this race before. I double a jump and my front wheel didn’t go over the landing lip so I went over the bars.
It was so high that i land first on my hands and after straight on my back. I couldn’t feel my right leg for about a
minute. Very shocking feeling. But the feelings came back and my pelvis and my right knee hurt even more. I couldn’t get
up and the doctors there ordered an helicopter, because they weren’t sure if my back has fractures.
My back was total scrashed and blue and hurt me too a lot.
So I did my first heli flight to the UKH in Salzburg. There my knee got x rayed and I made a Computer Tomography.
For this I got a contrast liquidity injected and that was such a crazy feeling. They told my that I will feel warm
but I felt so hot, like I was burning from the inside. It was not painful but just not a good feeling. After I the doctor
told me the results and I said that my knee is allright, but I broke a little piece out of my pelvis and that I have
to rest for at least 4 weeks. I started so to cry because (maybe it sounds crazy for you) I counted the weeks in my head
and which races I can’t compete and that would be a lot. The doctor didn’t understand my reaction, how could he?
I think just athlets understand why I counted and cried like this.
I had to stay in the hospital over the night and got one injected after the other to reduce my pain. Actually I was more
afraid of the injections than the pain I would have had without them. The next day I felt so much better and I could
leave. Some friends drove me home in my car and I stayed about one week in bed and didn’t move much. I had crutches and
my flat isn’t that big so I was fine. In the week I started to „go“ in the gym and trained the rest of my body and rode
carefully the hometrainer there. Riding felt so much better than walking. When I walked i superextended my hip joint and
then i hurt a lot. when I pedalled I was fine.
In the third week I start to ride my hardtail bike again and tried on the bmx track vösendorf if it hurts a lot or not.
And it didn’t hurt at all. I was happy about that.
I made a second eximination and MR (Magnet resonanz) and for my surprise my doctor told me that I don’t have any broken
bones I „just“ have had a shrinking of my cartilages in both of my hips joints since I am born and because of this big
crashed it started to hurt me so much. He told me I can race again if I feel okay and that he wants to see me next week
to talk about the future therapy.
So I decided to race in Leogang (AUS) the world cup. I already missed the last one one week before in Fort Williams.
I just race 4x this time I though maybe both is too much. But I am here now and regretting it a lot that I don’t race both
It so hard for me to step on step back and don’t do to much for the beginning. I love it a lot. I love DH and 4x the same
so I don’t know what I should do. Focusing on one is definetly better but I don’t know on which one. Now i have
to accept it and race just 4x. Ah yes the 4x track- I don’t like it. For girls it isn’t a nice track to ride. The takeoff
lips are round and the first jump is scary, for me it is. I will see how the trainings goes today.Full report bye LENE

Freaky

This weekend I gave it up… my rear shock was repaired on monday (4th times) because it was leaking again after the world cup run in Schladming. I thought yeah now it works but no. I had a race this weekend and it was a very nice track not that long but nice built. I tried to forget my rear shock and ride it until it was completly destroyed. Honestly I didn’t care anymore I couldn’t do anything in that moment. The complete saturday was just …..:-(

img_5163.JPG
On sunday I visited a friend and we went swimming, inline skating, diving board jumping and with a pedal boat. It was soo hot and enjoyed it a lot after this horrible saturday. It was the first time for me with inline skates in a half pipe. I tried a „180°“. KIND of :-). On monday I went wakeboarding with Kai. It was very busy at the lift and so we couldn’t do many runs.

Gansta car…. We don’t need a party we have our own..img_5177.JPG

4X St. Magarethen etc..

Last weekend I competed at a 4 Cross race in St. Magarethen. It was such a good race. Very well organised and the track was good too. The only lack was the number of competitors. We were just 2 girls okay I didn’t expect more but there were also just 7 elite men riders. I don’t wanna say that they aren’t the best from austria but I was a little bit frustrating. Seeing such a good event and so less riders. (Thanks to the organisation!!!)But anyway it was soooooooo hot that nearly all the riders went to a lake to cool down and continued riding at 4 o’clock… Even Kai and I…We proofed our skills in board jumping and extreme drying….The final started at 6 o ‚clock. Petra got first me second. Thomas Bubla first and Markus Sedlak second.

Thanks to my sponsor GENERALI
On Sunday we drove to Maribor and did there good runs. I realy like the area you can ride so many different things. Roots, Gaps, Drops, freeride trails…… We met the UCI World cup 4x Track builder… I forgot his name and we had a look on the new 4x track. It isn’t finished yet but it looks cool… I sure you can see soon the pictures on the nzride.com web page.

Tomorrow we are driving to Morzine and next weekend we will compete at a IXS cup.

See you LENE

how was it?

Leogang went well for me. I was satisfied. I stayed always close to the second rider and I nearly passed Sasha Huntingon at the finish line but just „nearly“ and nearly is not passed. In the last turn i went outside to get some speed but the deep mud eat my front wheel and I couldn’t built up enough speed to passe her. So I ended up on the 11 position. But for my regret this race was one of my qualification races for the World champs in Canada. My last chance is in Val di Sole in two weeks, where i have to be at least top 6 I guess. I will see what i can do.
After my 4x performance in Leogang at the World cup, I swapped my bike and I raced the European IXS Cup in Leogang. I liked the track and the weather was perfect. Just sunshine and dry underground. I enjoyed it a lot. Many good girls were riding and so the starte field was hot. Tracy mosley von Great Britian won. I came 10th. I was not to satisfied with my place but satisfied with my race run.
After this race I went back home and decided to take a break. My right hip hurt me still a lot when i walked. The doctor told me to take a break from at least 3 weeks so my hip has time to heal a little bit.
I trained gates today and I felt good. Walking still causes me pain and my walking style has changed but my biking style is the same :-). I won’t go to Champery (SUI) this weekend. It’s to early for me and on this track you should be more than 100% fit. I will be in Val di Sole (Italy) next week to compete in 4X there.
bye bye Lenereport-between2.jpg

And the race must go on… Kalnica Slovakia

Some of you think hmm why is she not in South Africa. yes the times getting tough and I could not afford me to travel there. I have to save my money for the europe races and for living. So this weekend I travelled to neighbor country Slovakia and it was totally worth it in a village called Kalnica. Nice track, nice jumps and nice weather, nice company and race atmosphere. Cheap accomodation, cheap entry fees but also less price money. I had good training runs how you can see in my first GO PRO video  (Thanks to Axel from Motionssports to supply me one HD Go Pro camera) my qualification run was good as well, I placed second behind a Czech girl 2,97 seconds behind. I was going for the win in my second run but she as well and he made it. I finished second (from 8 girls) with 2 seconds behind her and was still very happy about my race run, because it felt great. I didn’t make mistakes and I did all jumps, which I wanted.nr2-kalnica.jpg

Portes du Soleil

At the moment I am sitting in a nice living room from a nice hotel in France… What I am doing here. Of course riding my bike. After about a whole day spending our time with the tractor game, passing 2 countries we ended up in Morzine. A very touristy village right in the heart of Portes du Soleil bike area.
I am at one of the nicest places in Europe to ride your bike. About 24 lifts are running the whole day, about 650km signposted routes are to spotted. Many downhill tracks many single trails and some jump parks. The first day was not the exciting because we just ride on tracks where every wekend rider is riding. And there were a not ending brake bumps story. For everyone who can’t image what brake bumps are. They are little bumps which results of 100 of bouncing back wheels.
But today we went on extreme great tracks. One was a french national race track (Avoriaz – Montriond ) and other very amazing tracks. I am not very used to ride tracks fast I don’t know but the last days a learned a lot about improving the reaction skills and how to cope with different situations. When you race everything is well thought-out and you know your line. But here you done just one run on the trail and heading to next one.

To my Mum: Sorry that I was not at home on your birthday… I love you.

See you LENE

first day in Champery

It’s very pretty here. BUT the track isn’t fun… until now. I hope I going to enjoy it much more 2 morrow. There are two sections I am really afraid of and I will see if i can made them the next days. Hmm but no stress.  YEAH hear you tomorrow

see you LENE

Family weekend

The no racing weekend…I decided to stay at home this time because my next weeks are going to be very busy. Okay completly without bike it can’t work. So Kai and I were riding on a nearby mountain. We had the weather on our side. It was just very muddy so that I have to bleach my pants after the day to get ridden of the mud spots and we have also to clean the bikes. But apart from that I was great.
In the evening I spend time with my friends and had dinner at my friends restaurant/Pub schlosserei. The owner, Ali, was my best childhood friend and it is amazing how she manages ther restaurant all by herself. Perfect location, perfect food and nice staff. Whenever I find time I am there.
The Sunday was the big family day. We (my oncle, my aunt, my neighbours, my brother, my 2nd aunt and Kai) celebrated my father’s birthday. I count my neighbours to my family because the couple (Schimon) are for my brother and me our grand parents. We didn’t know our real grand parents and since I can think they took part at every important family celebration (Christmas/ Birthdays/ Easter/ graduation…)
The weather hold on until the dessert and after that it rained cats and dogs. I love the family parties but after the 5th times critzising my hear colour “why did you colour your hair black” (For everybody to understand I have normally blond hair) I had enough and took the chance to watch TV at my parents place. I think everybody knows how it is when the family is running out of talk topics and starting to critize you.

Back on the road…..
At the moment I am sitting in the car but this time as a passanger. Kai is driving. Very relaxing for me. We are playing the tractor game and I am leading at the moment. YES!

05-juni-024.jpg

Okay on that picture he is leading but in the end I won.

We are on the way to my oncle and to the 2nd World cup in Champery. Franz lives in Zürich so we will stay over night there and go on in the morning. My cousin has birthday and I bought him a Skater T-shirt and a cap. I hope he will like it because I can remeber when I was a teenager it was hard to take my fancy.
More news are coming
See you LENE

Back to Leogang – relaxing?

Last weekend i travelled again to Leogang because the IXS cup and the European 4x cup was going on. It was all the same apart from that I was this time by myself and i had to switch the car, my one had a break defect. My uncle lent me his own. Friday the Dh track was in a good shape and the sun was out. I really enjoyed riding it. The 4x track was fast. I had good practice runs and had really fun. It was a great preparation for the World champs there next year. The qualification run went well too. I was 2,7 seconds first. Ahead from Diana Maggraff from Equador and Neza Knez from Slovenia.
Saturday I felt very tired I could feel the races from the weeks before and was empty. It was quite hectic and exhausting to switch between 4x and downhill. And my batteries were finished. At the end the weather conditions turned into a storm and the 4X final race and the elite dh qualification got cancelled. I kept my first place from quali, which was great and I was okay with that because the race would have been on Sunday morning, where i had downhill practice.
Sunday was raceday in downhill and I felt allright but not 100 percent motivated to be honest I wanted to go home to relax for a bite. So was my race run. The track looked not anymore like a downhill track more than a battle field, so deep brake holes and mud lines that you could slice with your brake disc the mud. I found my way down but the time was really crap. I finished 12th. But I didn’t think about it much it was not feeling for racing and so it was fine for me, I can not be always top. (okay in four cross I won, so I can not be top everyday….)
This weekend I stayed at home did some nice XC laps and 4x trainings, RELAXING that it was I needed. Bye bye Lene

Podium in Czech Republic

nr3-karlovice.jpg

Last weekend I competed in Czech Republic, just across the Slovakia border.  This race counted again to this Slovakian- Czech downhill race series. The track + weather was nice, the organisation as well and the best was, I won. I was about 6 seconds faster than in my first run and so I won by 1,3 seconds in front of the Czech republic rider, Jana Bartova. (Totally we were about 10 girls) It was quite weird because the commentator didn’t speak English and my run wasn’t perfect, so I thought I didn’t win but I did…. I realized just after a while that I was first and so I missed this moment when you cross the finish line and listen to the results….and to be extremely happy when you hear you won – in my case it was more like “ah I won hmmm?”.  The whole weekend I felt all right just the finish jump you can see on the picture makes me at the beginning some problems but for the race day I was well prepared.  My next race will be the national champs at Semmering ( so come and watch if you are near)
